I conducted an interview with my friend and current suite mate Dylan Freeman who is from Redding, Connecticut. Dylan lettered in 3 varsity sports in high school (Football, Lacrosse, and Basketball). He was the captain of the Barlow High School Lacrosse Team his senior year, and currently plays club lacrosse and pickup baseball basketball at Emory. He is also an avid skier.
How long have you been playing sports?
I started playing soccer and t-ball when I was like 5, and then I picked up lacrosse and football in about seventh grader. Been skiing forever also.
How do you think your life would be different without sports?
I wouldn't really have any friends. Sports are the easiest way in the world to make friends because all you have to do is be good at the sport and everyone likes you. I would also be much less disciplined; it adds structure to everything. In high school, I even got better grades when I was in season. Sports took up more time, but everything else in my life got better when I was playing them.
Even though you do not play a varsity sport in college, do you still feel very involved in sports?
Yeah for sure. I still play club lacrosse, and I watch a ton of sports. Even playing Fifa has become such a huge part of my life. Sports are just fun and they're a good way to do stuff with friends.
What is your favorite moment ever in sports?
High School Lacrosse Semifinals when we beat New Canaan in overtime. Seeing those kids cry was the best moment of my life. We were down 2 with 2 minutes to go, in lacrosse that pretty much means you're going to lose, and then somehow we tied it up with four seconds to go. Then we got a game winning goal in overtime and our fans stormed the field. It was incredible, never gonna forget that. I hated New Canaan so much.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Hmm I gotta think about this one, probably a football player. I have almost two different types of favorite football players: I like kind of class-act guys but then on the other side I like guys like Ray Lewis who just crush guys and is a straight thug on the field. I can't really pick just one person, but I definitely appreciate athletes on both sides of the spectrum.
Do you want your kids to be involved in sports?
Hell yeah I do. My kids are gonna be strong, athletic, and tall. They're gonna be pretty good at sports, I can already tell.
Could you imagine your life without sports?
Not really. I would probably get in to drugs, I would do much worse in school, I would be out of shape, I wouldn't get girls, and a lot of other shit. The other parts of my life are just so affected by sports. I'd pretty much just fall a part.
