Competition drives male culture, specifically in athletics. Men are always trying to be better, stronger, and more athletic than their counterparts. The gym, specifically, is a place where many men weigh themselves up against other men. I find myself always comparing how strong I am compared to other men. I, like many other men, am a competitor and the perfect place to compete is in the gym. The bench press in particular seems to be the measuring stick for men to compare their strength to other men. The prototypical muscular man has a built chest and muscular arms, which are the muscles targeted by the bench press. The bench press becomes almost a sport and a competition to many people when they're in the gym. I always feel pretty good if I'm in the gym with a friend and I can bench press more than him. The bench press drives competition and is the prime measuring stick for a man's strength.
