Sports may seem like a trivial activity and do not have huge importance to non professional athletes, but in reality they help shape and even save some people's lives. I have been involved and interested in sports since I was about three years old, and most of my friends have come from my athletic activities. I grew up in New York City on the Upper West Side, and sports have always been a massive part of my life. What is so interesting about sports is how they affect the culture and social structure around us; especially the male culture. Maybe I fall into the stereotype of a 'jock', but most of my best friends have come from the playing field. I would like to believe that I have become a better person through the adversity I have faced in sports and from the friendships I have made playing sports. Even my coaches have become some of my best friends over the years because there is nothing like being a part of a team. I have learned how to bond with others and how to be part of a team that is trying to achieve a goal. I would not be the same Josh without sports.
